Mentoring Program in the Elementary Schools
Requires just a commitment of 1 hour per week. Our program provides structured activities focused on improving academic ability and increasing self esteem.  The training, materials and on-going support are provided through our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Mentor one child and change two lives.  You can make a positive difference in your life as well as the life of a child.

RESPECT Campaign (MILFORD WHERE RESPECT SHINES)
May is National Respect Month and we run a large campaign to identify Respect Stars and Ambassadors of Respect at each school.  We look for students that exemplify the message of RESPECT to their peers.

SR³
SR³ is a group of high school students from across Milford interested in “changing the norm.” We are interested in fostering self-respect, respect for others and their property, and respect for the environment. It is our goal to raise awareness on the differences between perception and reality, stereotype and truth. Together we can strengthen our community from within and have a positive impact on our own lives, as well as the lives of those around us.  Click here for our brochure.

Middle School After School Programs
The period immediately following school is a critical period and if left unattended, youth may often turn to negative and potentially harmful behaviors.  By providing positive and constructive activities after school we are providing a safe place and positive learning experiences to our youth.  Program currently offered as West Shore with hopes to expand to the other Middle Schools.

Partnership with Junior Achievement
We have sponsored "JA in a day” events at local elementary schools and several members of our board  have volunteered to bring the JA curriculum to the schools.

Organization of Promise Program
We have created an application to identify Organizations in the community that are committed to fulfilling the 5 Promises for youth.  By identifying and recognizing schools businesses, churches and agencies in the community that are committed to youth we are helping to strengthen partnerships and make Milford a collaborative Community of Promise!!

If you feel your organization is committed to youth and fulfilling the 5 Promise. Please contact us for an application.  When named an Organization of Promise, we provide you with a plaque to prominently hang to show your commitment to youth to the community.  We also ask that you attend the monthly Youth Services Network meetings to help promote partnerships for improving youth programs throughout Milford. We also offer you the opportunity to include articles in our tri-annual newsletter or post information on our Promise Station regarding youth programs and resources.

100 Best Communities in America Award
Milford’s Promise was the catalyst in completing and submitting the 100 Best application to Washington DC.  The application process involves interviewing all youth servicing agencies in the community including the school system and compiling all of the wonderful ways Milford is committed to youth.  Each year over 2000 applications are submitted  from communities across America explaining how they are committed to the 5 Promises and why they feel they should be named one of the “100 Best Communities in America for Young People”.   We are extremely honored to announce that Milford was awarded this honor three years in a row. Even more exciting, Milford was the ONLY community in Connecticut to win this for the third time.
